A JOINT bid between Royston Town Council and the Royston Town Centre Forum has been submitted to North Herts District Council.

The move came on Monday evening during a behind-closed-doors town council meeting.

The bid will now be considered in the tendering process.

In recent months the district council has been looking at handing over the running of the twice-a-week market to a "private" concern.

The joint bid is expected to be up against submissions from commercial organisations which already run markets.

Although the meeting involved all town councillors Liberal Democrat members Cllr Liz Beardwell and Cllr Robert Inwood were annoyed when they were banned from the discussion under rules in a new Code of Conduct for councillors which prevents them as district councillors discussing such matters.
