One of Royston’s biggest firms has helped smarten up the volunteer facilities at the town museum.
Johnson Matthey have funded the redecoration of the volunteer room at Royston and district museum and art gallery, to give the museum’s unpaid staff somewhere to relax. The kitchen and bathroom have also undergone a face-lift.
To celebrate the completion of the work last week, staff from the company hosted a tea party for the museum volunteers and residents of the nearby St Georges Care Home.
Sarah Russell, the museum’s curator, said: “Getting this work done is a great way for us to give something back to the volunteers at the museum. Without them we couldn’t do all the work we do.”
Deb McGarrity, site manager at Johnson Matthey’s Royston plant, added: “As the doors are mainly kept open by unpaid volunteers, it is with great pleasure that Johnson Matthey is able to show some recognition to them by revamping their rest room and kitchen area giving them a more comfortable environment to help in.”
