Icknield Walk First School pupils had some very special guests join them for lunch this week – residents of Margaret House Residential Care Home in Barley.

Four of the residents went to school to have lunch with the children, who chatted away happily with their visitors and made them feel welcome.

It was noted that everyone enjoyed the school dinners – some of the elderly residents said it was many years since they had eaten a school dinner and telling the children about the tapioca they used to have, that was just like frogspawn!

After lunch, entertainment was provided by Year 4 singers who sang a selection of songs and then dancers – from the same year group – performed some creative dance about vikings.

Headteacher Jane Sherwood said: “We waved our visitors off with smiles on their faces. It was a very successful event with the aim of teaching our children about caring for others and how they belong to a wider community.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved, especially the catering staff from Herts Catering Ltd. who cooked such delicious meals for us!”
