Two households in Melbourn found their car tyres had been slashed on Monday morning.
Lyndsay Lees had just set off from her home in Beechwood Avenue to take her children, aged four and eight, to Meldreth Primary School, and didn’t make it very far before she realised there was something wrong.
“I thought it was a flat tyre,” said supply teacher Lyndsay.
“The thing was I had just driven down the road so I went to turn back and go home.
“When I went to have a look a lady stopped near my car, and she had two flat tyres herself.
“So we had a look round thinking there was something in the road that could’ve done this damage but there wasn’t anything.
The tyre, was replaced by Mantles Kia garage in Royston and the mechanic said that it had three cuts, and they looked deliberate.
It is thought the slashing took place between 8pm on Sunday and and 8.30am on Monday morning.
“I’d quite like to get my hands on whoever did it, just to get them off the street if anything,” said husband Matt, a technology consultant.
“It was a good job that I hadn’t left for work yet so I could help with the kids.
The couple, who have been married ten years, said their neighbours are also concerned.
“It’s unnerving that someone is walking around with a knife stabbing things – three times,” Lyndsay said.
Matt added: “We are certainly thinking of getting CCTV now.”
Sharon Bridgeman, of Orchard road, had two tyres slashed on her car between 6pm on Saturday and 8.30am on Monday.
“My perception of the village was that it was a lively and friendly but this is the fourth time I’ve had something like this happen,” she said.
“I was afraid, but then I saw it had happened to Lyndsay as well, it’s such a mindless act that totally inconvienced us both.
“It is sad because we all have a social responsbility and should act responsibly for the benefit of society.”
Police are investigating the incidents and have asked anyone with information to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
