A concert at the parish church marked the end of another jam-packed Royston Arts Festival on Sunday evening - the town-wide event saw a Rio-inspired carnival procession, an art exhibition, and plenty of music and performances keeping crowds entertained all weekend.

More than 700 people flocked to the town’s Priory Gardens, including nearly 300 who took part in the colourful procession led by the Garden City Samba.

The team from No.3 Royston craft shop put on a craft fair, while a bunting painting workshop courtesy of Glazed Creations was also a big hit.

Record numbers attended the Royston Arts Society Autumn Exhibition and the Royston Photographic Society Carnival of Colour Exhibition in the town hall.

On Sunday, the arts festival became MusicFest’16 where 19 artists performed at nine pubs in the town – drawing in crowds of more than 100 music-lovers.

Overseeing all the activities was Claire Somerville, chair of Creative Royston which organised the event.

“It’s been such a delight to see the community come together for Royston Arts Festival 2016,” she said.

“It’s been a great achievement – thousands of people have attended events and activities across the town and the theme inspired a wealth of fun activities, performances and exhibitions.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved, especially all the volunteers without whom the festival would not happen.”

Creative Royston will be holding an informal consultation evening at The Old Bull Inn next Thursday, October 6, between 7.30pm and 9.30pm, for anyone involved in the festival. Email Pam at community@creativeroyston.org to reserve a place.

They are also inviting those who attended an event or exhibition to complete a feedback form online by clicking here – as it helps secure sponsorship and funding for the festival and other arts events throughout the year.
