Royston Volunteer Centre manager Denise Graham’s regular look at the voluntary sector in North East Herts

As the annual ‘season of goodwill’ comes to a close it’s an apt time to reflect on the goodwill shown throughout the year by the many unpaid volunteers who contribute their time, energy and skills to help others in the community or to benefit the environment.

This year we have, once again, been privileged to work with a wide range of volunteer-involving organisations and volunteers who have spread their goodwill and enhanced the lives of so many local people.

These people are real superstars. They don’t seek the limelight but work so hard – often behind the scenes – to deliver local services, put on events and activities or just be a friend to someone in need.

Some will have been volunteering on Christmas Day and across the holidays to brighten someone else’s festive season.

They are very special people and I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers across Royston and district.

We look forward to supporting them and working with their organisations next year.

As Oscar Wilde once said, the smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.

So why not find out how you can get involved – whatever your age, interests or spare time, there are hundreds of ways you can help.

We reopen on Wednesday, January 6 and we would love to hear from you then.

In the meantime, why not browse our volunteering opportunities online at www.do-it.org.

If you register your interest through the website, we’ll be in touch in the new year.
