New trees will be taking root in Royston thanks to the efforts of Royston in Bloom.

The organisation recently received a free community tree pack from the Woodland Trust, and last weekend volunteers planted 30 tree saplings consisting of silver birch, rowan and wild cherry at Stile Plantation in the town.

The trees, all native broadleaved species will grow into flourishing young trees in as little as 10 years.

A spokesman for Royston in Bloom said: “This project has really proved to be worthwhile and is already being appreciated by residents using the plantations and has made the area more attractive for people walking in this wooded landscape in Royston.”
