A fight involving several young men broke out on Sunday afternoon in Royston, prompting a call to police by a member of public.
Officers were called just after 7pm to Melbourn Road, and a spokeswoman for the police said they dealt with the disturbance and no arrests were made.
Royston Beer Festival was held in the grounds of the nearby football club, and an eyewitness said: “I saw about 20 to 30 people with beer cups in their hands, some were fighting and most of them were trying to break it up. I saw someone being smacked in the mouth and a few punches were thrown.”
Chairman of Royston Town Football Club Steve Jackson said: “We do everything in our power to ensure that Royston Beer Festival passes without incident and 99.9 per cent of people go home peacefully and without incident.
“We serve all drinks in plastic containers – apart from the few commemorative glasses we give out – and stewards continually police the event to defuse any minor incident escalating out of control.”
