Hundreds of people turned out for the opening of Melbourn’s Community Hub.

The community building, located in the High Street on the site of the former village police station, houses a café with free Wi-Fi, a library access point and meeting rooms which can be used for leisure or business.

An open day was held last Saturday for villagers to take a look around the facility, which cost £250,000 and has been built alongside a new housing development.

Melbourn district councillor Jose Hales said: “The community of Melbourn never ceases to amaze me, they turned out in the hundreds to support their new community venture in the Melbourn Hub. There wasn’t one word of criticism only support.

“I would like to thank the Parish Council for being courageous and community minded in bringing this project forward as a possibility. I also thank the Management group who have worked in close conjunction with the Parish Council. They have delivered this project on time to the community”.
