Hundreds of visitors turned out last Thursday for the school’s latest open evening.

Activities took place across the school for visitors to take part in, with parents and carers once again offered an opportunity to witness the first-class education and teaching facilities on offer.

Laura Rawlings, head of middle schools, and Kim Horner, acting headteacher of Meridian, outlined their vision for the school’s future.

Miss Horner said: “Thank you to all our staff and students for a fantastic open evening. The school was packed full of excited potential new students and their parents. We can’t wait to welcome such an enthusiastic group of young people into our community a year from now!”

Visitors were invited to join in with sports, music, dance, maths activities, spelling challenges, cooking, 3D printing, languages, dissection, quizzes and painting.

Teachers and support staff were on hand to answer questions on a particular subject or prospective student’s requirements.

Year 9 students were a credit to the school explaining their roles in school projects such as ‘Your Voice’ and The Duke of Edinburgh Award, and pupils accompanied visitors around the school site.Science was a typically explosive experience, with visitors’ senses beset by live demonstrations of amazing experiments involving water, fire and electricity.

In design and technology, machines whirred and whizzed as students demonstrated an array of techniques and visitors were invited to create imaginative designs with 3D pens. PE highlighted the skills of students playing ‘badminton, table tennis and basketball. Chris Duffy, head of PE, celebrated the selection of four of the school’s Year 9 boys for the North Herts Under 14 District Football Team.

In humanities, modern foreign languages, business studies, maths, English and religious studies the subjects were brought to life with a range of activities to challenge and excite those who took part.

Computer programmed robots drove out of the ICT rooms and the music department filled the maths department with a cacophony of sounds.
