Two unexploded Second World War shells have been discovered in the back garden of a home in Royston town centre this afternoon.
Police were called just before 1pm today to the property in Kneesworth Street following reports of two shells being found by men working in the garden.
Specialist police officers are at the scene and the Explosives Ordnance Disposal team are due to arrive shortly to identify and safely remove the objects.
A number of nearby homes have been evacuated and a police cordon is currently in place to ensure the safety of the people living nearby.
Road closures are in place on Kneesworth Street at the junctions with Melbourn Street and Mill Road.
