A BUS SERVICE to take young people directly from Buntingford to Stevenage is set to become a reality.

Buntingford Youth Council is finalising plans for the service, which will run from the town to Stevenage Leisure Park on Friday nights.

Youth council clerk Jill Jones said: "We've still got a few details to iron out, and will need to get things like consent forms organised, but the plan is for the bus to leave Buntingford at around 7pm and go to Stevenage Leisure Park so people can go to the pictures and use the bowling alley without worrying about how they will get home.

"It will make the return journey at about 11pm."

When the youth council launched it's manifesto in July, it pledged to "explore the possibility of a mini bus to Stevenage for bowling and the ice rink."

Mrs Jones added: "There are buses from Buntingford to Stevenage currently, but they aren't that frequent in the evenings and take a long while as they go through a lot of the villages.

"This service will be direct and make things a lot easier for young people.

"We have also been asked to look into running a bus to the under-18s night which is held at Liquid Nightclub.

"The first one of these is taking place during October half-term, and while this may be a bit short notice for us to get a service set up, we will certainly try to arrange something as soon as possible."

With several of its members set to depart for university, the youth council is looking for more people who would like to get involved with representing the town's young people.
