A sixth form student from Royston brought a touch of Spanish life to the town when she hosted a language afternoon at the weekend.

Hayley Smith, pictured left, taught 26 people basic survival phrases, such as how to ask for directions and how to order food and drink at the Una Tarde Española event in the Market Hill Rooms.

Hayley said: “I really enjoy studying Spanish and want to encourage more people to learn languages.

“I don’t feel this is done enough in England.

“A young boy said to me he wished he could come to the lessons every day.”
