The Heydon and Great Chishill Women’s Institute celebrated a double anniversary last week.

Not only did members from the group receive the baton passed to them by chair of the Cambridge federation Sally Kingman to mark 100 years of the WI, the branch held their own 60th anniversary festivities.

As part of the centenary, the baton left Anglesey on January 1 and is travelling the length and breadth of England and Wales, stopping at each WI group in the 69 federations along the way.

A triangle of grass in Heydon was chosen for the event because a tree stands here that was planted by the area’s WI in the 1960s.

Heydon and Great Chishill WI president Angela Patrick said: “The members enjoyed a very pleasant anniversary meal at The Pheasant pub in Great Chishill.”
