A campaigner for the safety of Royston High Street has said he is pleased it has finally been resurfaced by Herts County Council, although some work is still outstanding.

Nick White, who set up the ‘Make Royston High St Safe Now’ page on Facebook in response to a number of falls in the town centre, hopes the new surface will being more shoppers to the town.

He said: “I’m very pleased with what’s been done and now hopefully it will bring people back into the High Street.

“I know there is more work to do, but hopefully it’ll be done very soon and we can get people in town again.”

An HCC spokeswoman said: “Due to unforeseen ground conditions works took longer than anticipated, and we were also unable to address a number of minor defects due to road space availability.

“We would like to reassure residents that we are working towards getting these rectified as soon as possible and that these works will be completed at the cost of the contractor. We would like to thank residents for their patience.”
