Staff at Royston’s Meridian School are trying to raise £1,000 for a defibrillator, and are asking people who use the site if they could donate.
A defibrillator is used in cases of cardiac arrest, and acting deputy headteacher David Atkins said it would be vital in an emergency of that nature.
“The health and safety of our students, and indeed, of all those who use the school site, is a top priority,” he said.
“We firmly believe that in the case where a defibrillator is available in an emergency, the chances of saving a person’s life are increased hugely.
“In order to be able to buy a defibrillator – with which first aid staff can be trained – we are seeking voluntary donations from parents and carers of our students, as well as from those who use the site during evenings or weekends, or from members of the public who wish to support this venture.”
