TANNERY Drift School in Royston has appointed a new head teacher.

Anna Greetham joined the school on Monday to take over from Andrew Nicholls, who retired in March.

Anna has been teaching for the past nine years and decided to move to a school in Hertfordshire because it's known as a dynamic and forward thinking county.

She said she aims to build on existing strengths, which include good results, good teaching, positive attitudes to all aspects of school life and music.

"I want to develop other areas in the school and from September we will have smaller class sizes with the average class consisting of 22 pupils," she said.

"We want to give pupils a rich curriculum," she said.

Other areas which she wants to develop include the pupil's playground experience, improving resources and sports opportunities and building on links with other schools in the community.

Ms Greetham, who is originally from Lincoln, became a teacher after graduating from Warwick University with a degree in geography and PE.

She began her career at a primary school in Lincoln before moving to Raynsford Lower School in Henlow.

It was there that she was assistant head for six years.
