There’s still time to get your tickets for Royston’s 2018 pantomime, if you’re quick!

Mother Goose will be performed by Corvus Amateur Drama Society, who have been working hard as ever over the past months to ensure they put on a corker.

Audiences can expect songs old and new, jokes, garish costumes, theatrical tricks, slapstick, and perhaps some audience participation, and of course a moral at the end of the story. All-in-all, a huge amount of entertainment will be in store.

Director Alison Bass told the Crow: “The last time CADS performed this pantomime was 32 years ago, when I was a young lass, playing the part of our heroine, Jill!

“Little did I know, 32 years later, not only would I still be involved with this wonderful family, but that I would be directing.”

The audience finds Mother Goose down on her luck, worried she won’t be able to pay the rent.

So a fairy intervenes, and Mother Goose’s pet goose, Lucy, provides unexpected wealth. But does our Dame now have everything she wanted in life, or does she learns a valuable lesson that money cannot buy happiness in the end?

CADS has been performing in Royston since the 1940s, but requires a constant turnover of members: “This is the 9th pantomime I’ve directed,” Alison added.

“And this year more than ever it couldn’t have happened without a team effort – we really do rely on volunteers’ time and talents - whether on-stage or back-stage, making costumes, chaperoning, finding props, painting, hammering, or just making us tea on long set-building weekends. “There are countless jobs required to put on this show for you all. If there is any way you could spare some time and be involved next year, then please do contact CADS.”

Tickets are selling well both matinée performances are almost fully booked, and cast and crew are excitedly putting finishing touches in place. There are three performances at Meridian School coming up, the evening shows at 7.30pm this Friday and Saturday, with the matinee at 2pm on Saturday.
