GREG Harlock has been appointed the new chief executive of South Cambridgeshire District Council.

Mr Harlock, 55, who is currently the council's director of finances and resources, will take over from John Ballantyne, who has spent the past 13 years in the position.

Council leader Cllr Sebastian Kindersley said he was "delighted" Mr Harlock had been appointed.

Mr Harlock has spent 36 years in local government and joined the district council in 1987 after serving as a principal auditor with Cambridgeshire County Council. He said it would be a "privilege" and hoped to build on "existing achievements".
