CHILDREN from schools across Royston yesterday (Thursday) entered a new chapter of learning for World Book Day.

Youngsters at Roman Way First took the chance to dress up as some of their favourite literary characters and talk about their most loved novels.

Harry Potter, pirates and princesses were all represented and teachers also got in on the act.

Emma Edwards, headteacher, said: “For World Book Day all of the pupils and staff at Roman Day dressed up to celebrate their favourite stories and characters.

“We had previously spent time reading our favourite stories to each other, everyone had great fun and enjoyed talking about their characters.”

Tannery Drift First School also got in on the act and the children swapped books with their classmates.

And also learnt about Aborigine art and literature.

Roman Way middle school will hold their events next Friday.

Kids around the town also had the chance to see some of their favourite authors and illustrators come together for the first online children’s book festival yesterday.

Jacqueline Wilson, Eoin Colfer, Cressida Cowell, Derek Landy and Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson were just some of the authors taking part in a series of performances for the Biggest Book Show on Earth as it was streamed to homes, schools, bookshops and libraries across the region.
