Cambridgeshire's first Baptist church is celebrating its 150th birthday on Sunday.

Melbourn Baptist Church in Mortlock Street first opened its doors to worshippers in 1856 after moving from premises facing the High Street.

But it can trace its history back to 1635 and to the Reformation.

The Rev Stuart Clarke, the new pastor of the church, said: "It is fantastic to be part of a friendly and lively church that can trace its roots back so far into history.

"I am very much looking forward to meeting the many people who have such fond memories of this place over the years."

A special service will be at held in the church on Sunday to mark the occasion.

Trustee of the church David Jordan, who will be leading the service said: "The church has had a huge influence on many people over the decades.

"We would love to invite all those who have been involved with its many activities to join us to celebrate this fantastic anniversary."

There will be a buffet tea during the afternoon with the service taking place at 6.30pm.
