A YOUNGSTER is hoping to be elected to represent Hertfordshire in the UK Youth Parliament.

Hailey Badger from Stocking Pelham is one of the candidates in the running for the county's six seats it the Youth Parliament.

Elections are taking place, with polling booths set up at schools and colleges across Hertfordshire.

Hailey said: "I am campaigning to improve public transport and to reduce fares.

"I am also concerned about the lack of focus in the teaching of PSHCE - personal, social, and health care education - and would like schools to provide more diverse extra curricular activities for young people."

The results of the election will be announced at County Hall in Hertford on Sunday, February 9.

Jane Pitman, Lead Member for Children's Services, said: "This is a great opportunity for young people to represent their peer group and campaign on issues that matter to them."

Hailey, who attends Hockerill Anglo European College in Bishop's Stortford, is involved with Amnesty International and the Model United Nations project. She is also in training to run a half-marathon later this year.

The UK Youth Parliament is aimed at 11-18 year olds. During their year in the parliament, MYPs come together for regional meetings and take part in radio and newspaper interviews.
