Almost £5,000 of funding was awarded to charitable and community groups in Royston by North Herts District Council’s Royston area committee.
The awards, which range from £250 to £1,500, will be put to good causes like helping with the costs of the Rotary club’s large community events and publicity costs for the Creative Royston festival.
One of the successful applicants was Royston & District Community Transport, which was awarded £1,300 to assist with setting up a new dial-a-ride scheme in Royston and the surrounding villages – aimed at helping people with impaired mobility.
Other grants awarded at the area committee include Corvus Cornix Basketball, which received a grant for £200 to assist with the costs of running a series of basketball sessions for young people. Therfield Village Pre-School also received a £300 contribution towards a project to provide new premises and community sports in the village.
Royston Town Twinning was awarded £250 to contribute towards visiting costs and Creative Royston was awarded £1,000 to assist with the costs of putting on the 2016 Royston Arts Festival, to be held in September.
