A SUGGESTION to provide a graffiti wall in Royston has been branded "illogical".

Cllr Rod Kennedy told members of Royston Town Council's finance committee on Monday that such a move would encourage daubings elsewhere.

"I don't see a reason for encouraging graffiti. It seems illogical," he said.

The issue was raised in a report from Cllr Lindsay Davidson on the work of the Royston Youth Network.

She said where a graffiti wall was managed it did not "result in excess graffiti elsewhere".

And Cllr Paul Grimes said: "Hopefully it can be a cheap way of providing something for the youngsters."

The idea of creating a graffiti wall is part of a survey on youngsters' needs being undertaken by members of the Royston Youth Council.

Members of North Herts District Council's Royston area committee are examining the creation of a graffiti wall.

They have ruled out providing the wall in the Priory Memorial Gardens.
