A LOCAL band are bringing the sound of the swinging sixties back to the stage.

Buntingford-based five piece Highly Strung are playing a charity gig to raise funds for the Addenbrooke's hospital kidney patients association.

The concert will take place on Saturday September 26 in Clavering village hall, and will be the 13th fund-raising gig the band have played in the village.

Revellers can twist the night away to more than three hours of dance favourites from the 1950's and 1960's including chart hits from the Searchers, Buddy Holly & the Crickets, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Elvis, and Chuck Berry.

There will also be plus a showcase of 1970's and 1980's pop classics from Status Quo, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Chris Izaak and many more.

Highly Strung, which was formed more than 15 years ago by Buntingford guitarists Geoff Strachan and Jim Oliver, also features Matt Long on lead vocals, Adrian Foster on bass guitar and Danny Bacon on drums.

The band is famed for their authentic 1960's guitar sound, and this is sure to be a highlight of the evening.

Tickets, which include a meal, cost £8 in advance, and be purchased by phoning 01763 271921. All proceeds from the gig will be donated to the Addenbrookes Kidney Patients Association, which aims to help improve the lives of kidney patients at the hospital.
