GET ready to be banged up with Fletcher, Godber, and the rest of gang as classic sitcom Porridge takes to the stage.

Former Eastenders star Shaun Williamson will step into the late Ronnie Barker's shoes in a new stage version of classic 1970's TV series, which comes to the Gordon Craig theatre in Stevenage next week.

After successfully bringing Dad's Army to the stage in 2008, Calibre

Productions return to the Gordon Craig with the first ever professional stage adaptation of the show. Penned by the original writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais - the team behind Auf Wiedersehn Pet - this hilarious new play

features all your favourite characters from the original series. So prepare

for laughs-a-plenty as Fletch (Williamson), Godber and the other inmates of Slade Prison take on the system under the nose of the ever suspicious Mr Mackay.

Williamson, best known as the hapless Barry in Eastenders, is said to be both 'terrified and excited' at the prospect of playing one of televisions greatest comedy characters.

Since leaving Albert Square, he has taken up a number of other roles, including a star turn in the Ricky Gervais comedy, Extras.

So if you fancy doing some time, Porridge will run from Friday August 28 - Saturday September 5 at the Gordon Craig Theatre. Performances start at 7.45pm, with 2.30pm matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays. There is no show on Sunday August 30.

Ticket prices range from 15.50 - 19.50, with discounts for concessions and friends of the Gordon Craig.
