ORGANISERS of this month's Pink Ribbon Run/Walk are encouraging those taking part to turn up in costume.
Michaela Huffer, one of the organisers, said: "Although the event has a serious purpose, we always want everyone to enjoy themselves."
And those turning up for the event on Therfield Heath on Sunday, June 22, have the chance to walk away with a prize.
Curwens has donated Woolworth vouchers for a boys' and girls' fancy dress competition, while for adults, the Palazzo Restaurant in Royston is giving vouchers to use in the restaurant.
Meanwhile, organisers are still hoping to raise at least £40,000 from the event.
This will mean that over the past three years the Pink Ribbon Run/Walk would have donated £100,000 to Cancer Research UK.
It is hoped that 1,000 people will be taking part in the event over a three-mile course.
Speaking of raising a record amount, Michaela said: "We are really determined to do it."
And this year the costs of running the event on the day will be covered by Johnson Matthey.
Michaela said she was "delighted" for such sponsorship. "It is invaluable to us, and means that every penny raised will be donated to Cancer Research UK."
The event's other main sponsor will be the Royston-based accountants WKH, while other support is being provided by The Heath Sports Centre, the Rotary Club of Royston, Curwens Solicitors, Internet Geeks, Stationery Cupboard, Wooden House Design & Media, Brooks Running, and Tesco.
This year, organisers will be giving an exclusive cotton pink shopping bag to all entries, and each person taking part will receive a Pink Ribbon T-shirt and medal at the end.
n The Pink Ribbon Run/Walk will start at 11am and there will be an aerobic warm-up session at 10.40am.
