TWO years of hard graft for teenagers across Crow Country reached its zenith today with the publication of the GCSE results.

Students from Melbourn Village College, Meridian and Bassingbourn Village College received their results with all three schools doing well.

Meridian followed its strong performance in last week’s A-Level exams with a staggering 71 per cent achieving five A*-C grades and 65 per cent awarded five A*-C grades including English and maths.

“These are superb results”, said Kevin O’Grady, assistant headteacher.

“Testament to excellent teaching and immensely hard work from our students, who should be very proud of what they have achieved.”

Both of the South Cambs schools’ students also did well.

Those at Melbourn Village College were rewarded for their efforts with 69 per cent of pupils awarded five A*-C including English and maths with 87 per attaining five A*-C grades.

Simon Holmes, acting principal, said: “We are delighted to have improved upon the key measure of five A*-C, with English and maths, percentage, which last year placed us in the top 25 per cent of schools nationally for the second year running.

“These results are a testament to the hard work and commitment of students and staff at the college and an indicator of its continued success.”

Bassingbourn Village College also had cause for celebration with 67 percent of its pupils achieving five or more GCSEs at A*-C including English and maths, 29 per cent of grades were at A* and A and 38 per cent of students attained the English Baccalaureate.

Scott Hudson, Principal of Bassingbourn Village College, said: “We are very pleased with this year’s results. Our students, supported by their parents and staff at the College, have worked extremely hard and we would like to congratulate them on their achievements and wish them every success for the future.”

“The results are a true reflection of the abilities and hard work of our students and show how effective the teaching and learning is at Bassingbourn Village College. We were particularly pleased that a number of subjects achieved 100% A*-C pass rates and with a number of outstanding individual student performances.”
