Headteacher Helen Loughran said: “A huge well done to students collecting their GCSE results today. They have done spectacularly well and took the new tough GCSEs completely in their stride.

“It was really striking how seriously they took the advice their teachers gave them on how to revise and prepare for the exams. They jumped to take advantage of the extra opportunities such as workshops, revision sessions, Prep and private study in the library and as a result have gained really excellent results.

“A big thank you to all their subject teachers who not only worked hard to make their lessons as effective as possible but also gave up lots of time outside lessons to help students do their very best. And of course, thank you and well done to parents – your support made all the difference – both helping them with their revision and also giving them the encouragement to keep going when things got tough.

“Students of all abilities did equally well in the progress they made enabling the vast majority to move on to the courses they wanted to do either at Freman or at college. An indication of how strong the year group’s results are is the record number staying on in the sixth form this year, making our sixth form bigger than it has ever been.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming these students back on Tuesday, September 4, but we are equally proud of the students moving on to courses and careers elsewhere. We know they will do well and will make us proud wherever they go. We wish them every success and happiness.

“There were also far more grade 9s than we anticipated. Special congratulations to Louis Nicholls who achieved no less than 7 grade 9s, Jamie Walker who gained 6, Gemma Major with 5 and Grace Beeson with 4. Across the year group 35 students achieved one or more Grade 9 – an amazing achievement.”

Among the highest flyers, who gained who gained eight or more GCSEs at grade 7 and above were Grace Beeson, Ella Brett, Gemma Cable, Joe Campaniello, Amber Congrave, Mayo Elekolusi, Georgie Englishby, Mia Gleadow, Nathan Hadfield, William Hammond, Sam Jackson, Maddy Johannessen, Emma Lankester, Jason List, Joshua Lucas, Gemma Major, Kieran McKinna, Louis Nicholls, Tom Osbourne, Sophie Stead and Jamie Walker.
