Students at Bassingbourn Village College have come up trumps with an impressive haul of 8 and 9 grades in their GCSE exams – that’s A/A* in old money.
Head of school Vickey Poulter said: “I am delighted to say that 35 per cent of our students achieved at least 3 or more 7+ grades and 25 per cent of all grades were at 7 or above.
“It’s an excellent achievement and the hard work of our staff and students has been rewarded in a year where the exams in all subjects have become more challenging and harder to secure these top grades. I am incredibly proud of them all.
“We are particularly delighted with the grades for languages again this year – in Spanish half of the cohort achieved a 7 to 9 grade for the second year running and in Latin 58 per cent of the cohort secured the top grades.
“52 per cent of all students achieved 5+ in English and maths and 71 per cent at 4+ in English and maths.”
“Well done to all students on their achievements this year.”
The school said a number of students made excellent progress based on the new progress and achievement measures who should be particularly congratulated. For top achievement, there’s Grace Anderson, Sophie Burr, Adam Castle, Bea Cornwell, Lucas Hockley, Iain Lynn, Keira Sibbons, Imogen Sole and Libby Taylor.
Holly Derrett was also given a special mention for top achievement and top progress.
Students with top progress based on the Progress 8 scores are Jessica Sams, Hayden Byles, Jasmine Ho, Amelie Anderton and Keira Sibbons.
Year 10 students at BVC sat English language a year early with 71 per cent achieving grade 4 and above. Four students achieved grade 9 – Ed Evans, Cassie Evans, Rebecca Day and Eve Morris.
A group of Year 10 students sat GCSE psychology in association with the Cambridge Centre for Sixth Form Studies – and all achieved A* to C.
