GARDENERS of all ages were honoured at the Royston in Bloom awards.

Royston's mayor, Cllr Rod Kennedy, presented trophies, sponsored by The Crow, to the winners in the eight categories.

Angela Louch, Royston in Bloom chairman, said: "It was a marvellous evening, and what I found particularly heartening was the range of ages represented.

"We had youngsters of three or four right through to 90-year old pensioners, so it really bodes well for the future of gardening in Royston."

"But we were very pleased with our silver award, and it was a very high silver as we scored more points than last time, albeit not quite enough to move into a higher category."

The Anglia in Bloom judges also praised Royston's allotments, nominating them in the grow your own category, and this is something which pleased Mrs Louch.

"So many allotment holders entered Royston in Bloom, and the standard was higher than ever, so it was good that the Anglia judges recognised their hard work," she said.
