NORTH Herts District Council has thwarted an organised criminal gang that has been raiding parking meters in Royston.
It is believed that the gang comes from north London, and has been driving across East Anglia and breaking into parking meters.
It has emerged that the gang struck nine times in Royston between September 1 and October 22.
A district council spokes-woman said meters were raided in the Royston town hall car park, Angel Pavement, Somerfield car park and The Warren car park.
The parking meters have now all been secured and it is believed further attempts to steal the contents were foiled.
