gardeners were delighted to learn of their victory in the town's annual Royston In Bloom competition this week.

GARDENERS were delighted to learn of their victory in the town’s annual Royston In Bloom competition this week.

The competition features eight categories, with the gold award for exceptionally high standards given to the North Star pub being the highest winning award this year. In total, 42 gardens were given awards.

The winners for each category were:

Best Front Garden - Mr P Blows (37 Old North Road)

Best Front Garden (easy maintenance) - Maurice Harris (174 Green Drift)

Best Front Garden Container - Mrs S Shelly (Edward IV Cottage, Mulberry Court)

Best Kept Street or Community Area - Meridian School Site

Young Persons’ Project Schools or Clubs (joint) - Tannery Drift School Young Gardeners, Studlands Rise First School, Girl Guides’ Hut at Garden Walk, Prayer Garden at Saint Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Wild Flower Garden at Saint Mary’s Catholic Primary School

Best Entry, Young Persons’ Project (using recycled material) - Tannery Drift School

Pubs, Clubs & Commercial Premises - North Star public house

Best Kept Allotment - Mr Michael Griggs.
