ENGINES roared amid blooming snowdrops at a car rally on Saturday.
The Cambridge and District MG Owners Club staged its eighth annual Snowdrop Run on Saturday, and it saw more than 100 vehicles assemble for the start in the grounds of Wimpole Hall.
Participants came from as far afield as Kent and Lincolnshire to take part in the 50-mile run, which saw the cars hit the road bound for Wrest Park, an English Heritage property 50 miles away in Bedfordshire.
Drivers involved included Royston couple David and Jane Gower, who purchased their 1973 MGB on their wedding day 40 years ago and have been driving it ever since. Mike and Mary Maze, from Royston, brought their 1959 MGA 1600, while Rick and Mary-Anne Aldrid of Melbourn showed off their 1977 MGB GT.
Alan Griffin, from Royston, is co-organiser of the run. He said: “The event has matured from just a fledgling club-only run of 15 cars to Anglesey Abbey in 2005 to the huge support of the current annual event receives.”
More than £2,000 was raised on the day, which will be split between two charities, Magpas and MacMillan Cancer Support.
All the drivers involved received a snowdrop plant to mark the occasion.
