Runners in Crow country didn’t let a little rain stop them raising thousands of pounds for Sport Relief.

The charity event took place last weekend, and saw fun runs being held across the country to raise cash for a variety of good causes.

In Great Chishill, over 100 runners took part across one, three and six mile courses, and it is hoped over £1,000 was collected.

Organiser Sarah Scott said: “Once again, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part. It was not easy and the weather was not on our side, but everyone who took part should be very proud of themselves.

“We had a really good turn out and were very pleased with how the event went. There was a lovely atmosphere and lots of happy faces, which makes it all worthwhile.”

Sixty runners took part in a Sport Relief mile in Royston, with 13-year-old Cameron King crossing the finishing line first.

Over 100 Bassingbourn residents got involved in a dance video coordinated by Bassingbourn-based dance DanceMatters.

The school filmed a video to Pharrell Williams’ hit happy, with dancers aged two-93 taking turns to boogie on camera. Scenes were filmed in the village doctors’ surgery, the Book Café, coffee shop, and the village church, as well as the BBC Look East studio in Cambridge.

Naomi Wallen, dance teacher at the school, hopes that people will watch the video and will be inspired to donate £5 to Sport Relief via text message.

She said “I’ve been thrilled by how many people wanted to get involved. I can’t thank them all enough. They’ve proved how dance can be a way of bringing people together. I’m hoping that the video will ‘go viral’!”

Patients at Kneesworth House hospital in Bassingbourn took part in a Grounds Walk around the hospital, as well as a cycling ‘marathon’ and Zumba classes to raise money. Staff from the hospital, which is run by Partnerships in Care, undertook a sponsored 50-mile bike ride from the firm’s Borehamwood headquarters.

Rosario O’Connell, regional executive director at Partnerships in Care, said: I am delighted by all our teams commitment to what is a fantastic national fund raising event, By the staff and patients working in partnership we have produced a number of very positive initiatives which I hope will raise lots of money but also awareness of the good active engagement in sport can be”.
