A DRIVER suffered serious injuries when a car ploughed through the wall of a village pub earlier this afternoon.

Emergency services are at the scene of the crash, at the Fox and Hounds pub in Barley high street.

Police and fire officers, together with the East of England Ambulance Service hazardous area response team (HART), the Herts Air Ambulance and a paramedic ambulance from Letchworth were called shortly after 12.39pm.

EEAST spokesman Gary Sanderson, who attended the scene said: “On arrival, a man was rapidly extricated from the car embedded in the pub by HART operatives and fire fighters, he suffered serious injuries.”

“Following extensive treatment, stabilisation and immobilisation by HART, land and air ambulance crews, he was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital by land for further care.”

Five fire engines from Royston, Hitchin and St Albans attended the crash.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “One vehicle left the road and went into a building. We had to use cutting equipment as the driver was trapped.

“Stabilising equipment has been used to keep the building safe.”
