CHRISTMAS cheer spread through Royston this weekend after the switch on of the town’s Christmas lights.

The Mayor of Royston, Cllr Lindsay Davidson, turned on the lights on Saturday following a Christmas fair which took place in the High Street. The fair was organised by Royston in Business working party, a group looking to bring new life to Royston High Street, and saw stalls erected in the town centre by various businesses and charitable groups.

Lisa Thompson, from Royston in Business, said: “The fair went very well, shopkeepers were saying that the High Street was busy for a Saturday afternoon.

“Santa’s grotto was very busy from the start and ran out of presents four times.”

On Sunday, the Royston Christmas Carnival was in full swing, with a gift fair in the Old Bull Inn and live reindeer accompanying Father Christmas at Fish Hill Square.
