FURTHER talks are to be held over the setting up of a youth council in Royston.
Members of Royston Town Council's highways and general purposes committee were told that the scheme was still at an "embryologic stage".
But Cllr Lindsay Davidson, a member of a youth council steering group, said: "We need to take ownership of this and need to be seen talking to young people."
The steering group met last month to outline the basics of a youth council and the costs involved.
The group was told that North Herts District Council would meet the setting-up costs and running costs would be between £2,000-£4,000-a-year.
It was envisaged that over an initial period the youth council would meet every two weeks and would each quarter give a report to both the district council's Royston area committee and Royston Town Council.
The steering group report said: "Initially some members of the steering group would assist consistently until the youth council's members were able to self-sustain."
It was "essential", said the report, that "good communications" existed between the steering group and the youth council.
Cllr Davidson said that although the town council was enthusiastic about the introduction of a youth council it had to "careful" about its commitment.
The committee decided to discuss the issue further at its next meeting.
In a recent report to the Royston area committee it was said that citizenship classes in schools showed there was an interest from young people in participating in a youth council.
