A YOUTH council for Ashwell could be on the agenda if the village's youth club can find extra funding.

The idea is one of a number of possibilities suggested by Sam Clifford, the youth worker for North East Hertfordshire.

Mr Clifford said: "We'd like to extend the scope of the youth club a bit.

"It already has an established group of members, but we'd like to get it involved in some specific projects in the village.

"This could be through something like a youth council, or a new sporting club, but it depends how much money we have to play with."

The club, which is open one night a week, has a core membership of 15-20 youngsters.

Funding for youth club staff comes from Herts County Council, but other costs, mostly premises rental, have to be covered by outside funding.

With the current source set to finish in the next few months, Mr Clifford is seeking alternative funding.

He said: "There are a couple of funding sources in the village which we are looking at, but the more we can get the more we can do, so obviously we'd welcome any alternative offers or suggestions."

Anyone able to help should contact Mr Clifford on 01438 843340.
