The owners of an arable farm in Fowlmere that's been running for more than 100 years have applied for a licence to turn an agricultural building into a farm shop café.

The change of use application was put forward earlier this month on behalf of Mr and Mrs Deans, who run a farm in Long Lane in Fowlmere.

The couple supply animal feed and bedding for small animals from their 70 hectare farm and already have a store on site.

Brian Barrow from Acorus Rural Property Services, who is working on behalf of the farmers, said: “The owners think it will complement the farm shop next door, which is in the process of conversion, allowing local produce to be showcased on site.”

Originally the shop was intended to be pet related, but will now sell a range of goods.

A statement submitted with the application said: “The proposed café and permitted retail outlet at Deans Farm will benefit each other.

“The addition of a café on site will attract more customers as well as be used by those already coming to the store on site.”
