A pub landlady turned slimming consultant is urging others to join her in tackling the district’s obesity problem.
After beating her own battle of the bulge in 2012, Sandra Lloyd made a life-changing transformation from chef of the Waggons and Horses pub in Steeple Morden to Slimming World consultant.
The 48-year-old – who was at the pub for five years – has now been appointed team developer for North Herts and is determined to help others improve their lifestyles.
According to Health Profile stats released for North Herts this year, more than 19 per cent of the district’s population are classed as obese.
Despite these figures being below the national average, there are still 24,000 people in the district whose health is at risk through obesity- related illness.
Sandra said: “We are barely scratching the surface of the obesity problem which is a huge drain on our local health resources.
“We are currently reaching out to around 1,500 individuals in our North Herts groups on a weekly basis, but so many more people need our help.
“This means we need to open more groups and will need more consultants.
“My groups have been a soaring success. Being a Slimming World consultant really is a fantastic job for the right person.
“Not only is it extremely rewarding to be a part of a person’s life-changing or even life-saving weight loss journey, but the role also offers good income and flexible hours that fit in easily around family life.
“You can work as much or as little as suits your lifestyle and as my story proves there is also a great career path if you are looking for a bigger challenge.
“The fabulous part is that no qualifications are needed, as we are just on the lookout for special people with a warm heart, a sunny nature and the desire to want to help people to lose weight.
“A major part of my role now will be to recruit and open new groups in 2015, creating some exciting new self-employed business opportunities for both past and present members.
“By joining a group in January you could change your quality of life through weight loss and a whole new rewarding career could be yours too!”
Sandra holds her classes in Baldock every Wednesday at 9.30am, 5.30pm and 7.30pm at the United Reformed Church in Whitehorse Street.
