ROYSTON'S new toilets are flushed with success after being recognised in the Loo of the Year awards.

The Fish Hill toilets picked up a four-star award for their high standards of cleanliness and hygiene at an awards event in Birmingham, attended by Cllr Lynda Needham, North Herts District Council's portfolio holder for environment.

She said: "We worked hard to find the right design for these toilets when we upgraded them. It is very pleasing that an independent and prestigious organisation has recognised their merit.

"We will be putting up a plaque to mark the award, the first ever in the district. We invested in the toilets because town centres are a priority for us all."

The toilets, which reopened in February 2008 after a complete rebuild, were visited by an independent inspector who judged them on services including cleanliness, hygiene equipment, ventilation, security, access, décor, maintenance and signage.
