STUDENTS from Bassingbourn Village College have come back to tell tales of their trip to China. Years 10 and 11 went to Beijing - which included a visit to Tiananmen Square - during their week-long trip. Their excursions included visits to the Winter Palace and the Summer Palace. History teacher Anne Eastham, who accompanied the students on the visit, said: "It was tremendous. I do a historical trip every year for Years 10 and 11 and take them to countries where they wouldn't usually go. "From the curriculum point of view there was the art, the history and the culture in China. "There was something for every aspect of school life and it was especially good for their social development." One student said: "It was really surreal and not what we expected. China is pretty developed in terms of its industry. "I learnt a lot about the history of the country as well as the laws, education and systems." Another said: "I have a better understanding about China's history, its dynasties and the way in which the country is run. "It was somewhere where I had always wanted to go because I've always been interested in Chinese culture and it was definitely better than expected. "When you see pictures of China in books and then experience it first-hand it's incredible. "I would love to go back it was breath taking.
