Fixed? Not yet, but at least there’s now a level crossing warning sign at Foxton

A county councillor says she’s ‘furious’ that the only progress made since pedestrian level crossing gates broke five months ago is that a sign will be put up to warn people they are broken.

Susan van de Ven has been campaigning for months for Network Rail to fix the broken Foxton gates which have forced people to squeeze past busy A10 traffic when the barriers open.

Last month Network Rail officials suggested the new gates might be installed by the end of September, yet professionally printed signs warning of the gate closure is the only hard evidence of progress. She said:

“It is a dysfunctional crossing, managed by a dysfunctional organisation.”

A spokeswoman for Network Rail said interim signage will go up this week and the company is working on a solution for the new locking mechanism.
