A wealth of fitness activities and initiatives in South Cambs over the last year have meant people of all ages have had plenty of choice when it comes to keeping in shape.

More than 1,000 young people and families have taken part in the activities organised by South Cambs District Council – including netball camps, athletics camps, rounders and cricket camps and paddleboarding.

The district council’s Athletics Plus events also saw about 200 young people with learning or physical difficulties take part in sport.

And the Active and Healthy 4 Life GP referral scheme saw 272 adults with specific health conditions take part in a 12-week personalised fitness programme.

As a result of working with parish councils, the district council secured around £3 million of developer contributions for parish councils to fund improvements to recreation grounds, sports pavilions, play areas and village halls.

Councillor Sue Ellington, responsible for health at the district council, said: “I am delighted that the council has played such a major part in achieving this – the benefits of these initiatives will be felt for many years to come.”
