The first woman to complete the Race Across America cycling challenge will be opening this year’s Croydon Classic Vehicle Show.

Ultra-cyclist Shusanah Pillinger was raised in the village, and is the daughter of the late Professor Colin Pillinger, the principle investigator on the Beagle 2 and a prototype was put on display at last year’s event in his memory.

Shusanah said: “He would have liked it and would have loved to have been part of it. It’s really important that we keep the memory of my dad and his achievements going.”

The show will take place opposite All Saints Church on Sunday, July 10 from 12pm until 4pm, and proceeds will go to helping restore the church.

The event will feature vehicle parades, art show, stalls and games as well as a barbecue and beer tent. TV screens will be provided for those who can’t tear themselves away from Wimbledon and the British Grand Prix.
