FIREFIGHTERS are still planning to take strike action on Saturday despite calling off a planned one-day action on Monday.
The decision to abandon the strike on Monday came after the Herts Fire and Rescue Service and the firefighters were involved in 22 hours of talks.
It is understood that a proposed agreement was drawn up at the end of the talks but will remain confidential while the Fire Brigades' Union consults its members.
The strike action comes after Herts County Council approved cuts to the service.
The county council's plan saw a reduction in full-time firefighters at Royston Fire Station and retained firefighters being used for weekend periods.
More than 6,500 people signed a protest petition against the cuts which was handed over at County Hall by Royston's county councillor Doug Drake.
Both Cllr Drake and Cllr Tony Hunter, who represents the North Herts Rural Division, supported the campaign to oppose the cuts.
