ROYSTON firefighters were impressed by the standard of entries submitted by schoolchildren in a fire awareness project.
Before the summer break firefighters visited Greneway and Roysia Schools in Royston, and asked pupils to prepare a fire plan to keep them and their families safe.
More than 80 pupils came up with ideas which included what to do in an emergency, escape routes, and where to place fire alarms.
Royston fire station manager Steve Flowers said: "We were impressed by the standard of work carried out by the pupils.
"The standard was so high that it was very hard to select the winners. Both schools should be congratulated on their effort.
"The pupils are now more aware, which is going to benefit them now and in the future.
"Overall this was a valuable exercise which has shown pupils the importance of having smoke detectors and fire plans in the home.
