FIRE crews this morning are fighting a chemical blaze at a company in Fowlmere.

Emergency services were called early this morning to Welding Alloys in The Way, Fowlmere when about 40 50-gallon storage drums caught alight.

It is not known yet the kind of chemical the drums contain.

Cambridgeshire police said that the blaze is now under control and that it was safe for residents in the area to leave their homes after an earlier warning that they should remain inside.

The fire was under control at 6.38am after being reported at 5.27am.
