A festive feast was held in Royston for elderly people in the town.

The event saw about 20 pensioners sing carols and enjoy a Christmas meal at the Royston Day Centre, with the town’s mayor Robert Inwood and district councillor Bill Davidson enjoying the fun.

Manager Sharon Rednup said: “It’s a Christmas celebration and we’re getting them to come along to wish them happy Christmas.

“We’re also doing it to raise the profile that there’s something going on for the elderly.”

The centre plays host to a number of events for pensioners, including bingo and art classes.

“I have been coming here for 13 years. I like it because it’s nice to talk to everyone and have a good time,” said Ena Clacey.

The centre is run by volunteers, with members of the public cooking Friday’s meal and arranging all the events.

If you would like to volunteer at the Upper King Street centre call Sharon on 01763 244229.
